Dr. Amena Shahid's Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is grounded in my journey as a lifelong learner who approaches each day with an interest in making meaningful connections. Influenced by inspiring mentors who bring learning to life through real-world examples, I aim to form a similar impact by linking theory with application and encouraging inquiry.
Teaching is more than delivering content—it's a chance to connect with students and widen their world awareness. My research and international experience have improved my perspective, allowing me to bring global insights into the classroom through storytelling, international business perspectives, and lived experiences. I believe in a strong, dynamic relationship between teaching and student dynamics, where each advises and enriches the other to create meaningful learning opportunities.

01
I design my courses to engage students from diverse disciplines and learning styles. I encourage participation, questioning, and dialogue by fostering open, two-way communication. Strategies like group work, brainstorming, topic primers, and reflective questioning assist in creating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment. I also highlight early connection through office hours, building trust, and accessibility.
02
I bring the real world into the classroom by linking concepts with current, real-life issues. Students are exposed to primary research, guest speakers, and recorded interviews—experiences that emphasize the relevance of course material. This essential approach promotes these through discussions on current challenges and innovations.

03
I acknowledge diverse learning styles and use a combination of assessment methods, including written assignments, presentations, experiential in-class activities, case studies, project collaborations, and quizzes. This approach gives students multiple avenues to demonstrate their understanding. I also tailor content based on student interests and prior knowledge to increase relevance and engagement. I am committed to continuous improvement in my teaching practice. Through regular feedback, both formative and summative, and participation in professional development, I reflect, adapt, and grow. My goal is to promote a classroom culture where inquisitiveness is celebrated, learning is hands-on, and every student feels empowered to succeed.
